Iolite was named from the Greek word “ios” or violet. It is not a renowned stone but it does have a long history. Iolite will look different colored from different directions. The better and the richer blue color of the Iolite demands more from your pocket. They are available in mm sizes and far sizes in shape of Round, Oval, Pear, Heart, Marquies, Trillion, Buggette, Square, Octogun, Cushion , Briolette, Beads, Checker boards, Buff Tops , Cabs. and in many Fancy Shapes. Iolite is a hard stone that possess hardness of 7 to 7.5, but should be protected from blows. The stone can be made clean by using a brush or scrub with dish wash soap. It mostly needs to be cleaned from the backside where dust is collected.
