Tourmaline Gemstone (Hardness of 7.0)

Sinhalese (tura mali) means “mixed stone”. As per the name, the stone comes in a huge range of iridescent colors and color combinations. The options are so wide that it can be said of tourmaline: you name the color and you can have it.

The stone is mostly found in Brazil and also in parts of Tanzania, Kenya, Nigeria, Madagascar, Mozambique, Namibia, California, and United States. Brazil can boast of the rare Electric Blue and Green Tourmaline. Blue Indicolite, Red Rubellite, and Green Chrome are some of the other rare types of Tourmaline.

Other than jewels, Tourmalines are used in making hair care products such as dryers. Green tourmaline is used to access success, prosperity and peace. Black ones help to relieve the pain of arthritis due to their electromagnetic properties.

The price of Tourmaline is generally high with the price of rare blue and green tourmaline going as high as thousands of dollars while as those of the more common ones such as pink and mint green ones remains in the range of hundreds of dollars. They are available in mm sizes and far sizes in shape of Round, Oval, Pear, Heart, Marquies, Trillion, Square, Octogun, Cushion, Cut Stones, Checker Boards, Buff Tops, Cabs and Beads etc..
