Tsavorite Garnet Gemstone (Hardness of 7.50 to 7.25)
Tsavorite has always been an exceptionally rare gemstone. Only a small amount of Tsavorite crystals are excavated each year. It has been discovered relatively later than other gemstones The Tsavorite gem just has a 30 year old history in the commercial market. It is a rare gem and gaining popularity lately. It was named by its founder, Tiffany who first discovered this rare gem in 1969. He named the gem after the Tsavo national park, located in Kenya, where it was first mined. Tsavorite Garnet Gemstone is a bright green colored grossular, mined in the bushes of East Africa. Most notable country, currently mining Tsavorite is Kenya. It commands thousands of dollars per carat (if size is bigger than 5 carat ) and is very rare in terms of market exposure. They are available in mm sizes and far sizes in shape of Round, Oval, Pear, Heart, Marquies, Trillion, Buggette, Square, Octogun, Cushion, Briolette, Beads, Checker Boards, Buff Tops, Cabs and in many Fancy Shapes. But usually, sizes bigger than 3 carats are rare. |
